Personal Counseling Centre
Individual sessions:
In the month of August & September, a total of six students approached us for personal counseling, of which four continued to come for successive sessions. Their concerns, in general, were of interpersonal nature.
Group sessions for Visually Impaired Group:
A group session was held for the visually impaired students from Junior and Degree College, in which around 24 students had participated.
The aims of this session were manifold:
  • To orient the student to the concept of counseling.
  • To establish a good working rapport with them as well as within them.
  • To increase their comfort level with the novel situation and encourage participation.
  • To elicit interest and motivation for further sessions.
With these goals in mind, the session was designed to be interactive and as non directive as was possible. The students were encouraged to highlight the issues they would like to address in the future sessions. Some of the concerns raised were parental over protectiveness, low self confidence, dissatisfying peer interactions, unwanted sympathy, etc.

This helped them attain a sense of group cohesiveness as well as eased their apprehensions. The group eventually dispersed with positive and encouraging feedback from the students.
