Self Employment Course earlier known as Agmark Certificate course is designed to give opportunities to the students to expose themselves to the small scale industries, which is open to only students having chemistry background. The course content included the analysis of oils, spices, honey, tea and preparation of domestic household products like detergents, phenyl, liquid soap, herbal shampoo, aloevera shampoo, washing powder, creams like turmeric, aloevera, etc.
This also includes lectures by eminent industrialists, workshops and an industrial visit to T.D.M Laboratory for Drug analysis where they get hands-on experience to use modern instruments like GC, GLC, HPLC, LC-MS, etc in monitoring the drugs.
Students from Food Department utilized this opportunity to learn the analysis part of the course for selective experiments such as sugar contents, specific gravity, iodine value, peroxide value, acid value, free fatty acids etc. thus opening the door for outsiders also.
Secondary school students from ICSE board were also a part of this programme. They learnt how to make candles. They also learnt some lab experiments like preparation of hydrogen and oxygen, flame tests, woundless blood, litmus tests, invisible messages etc.
Thus the course opened doors for all and helped students to improve practical skills. The following are the Course Durations and syllabus covered :
