UGC GRANTS (XIth PLAN)
Under XIth Plan, the College received UGC Grants for a variety of schemes to improve the academic standards and the infrastructure of the College.
1. Under College Development Assistance, the UGC sanctioned Rs 19.0 lakhs, of which the College received Rs 11.40 lakhs. This grant was utilized for a wide range of UGC?approved expenses which include:?

  • Books & Journals (For Arts, Science & Commerce Faculties)
  • New Equipment and Maintenance of Equipments in Science Departments namely Chemistry, Biochemistry, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Physics, Mathematics & Statistics.
  • Improvement of Facilities on existing premises (CCTV Surveillance, Signage TV Displays, Furniture and Fixtures, Notice Board Displays, Tapestry / Curtains, Public Address System, Notice / Display Boards, Special Softwares for Office Computers)
  • Enhancement of Initiative for Competence Building (Sponsoring staff and students to participate and present Research Papers in the Local / State / National Level Seminars / Conferences ?/ Workshops / Symposia)
  • Examination Reforms (Computerisation of Examination Systems, Lamination of Marksheets and Passing Certificate of College Exams).
  • Educational Innovation (Starting Short Term Innovative Add - on Courses in Chemistry Department)
  • Field Work / Study Tours (Reimbursement of travelling expenses - by Public Transport System, incurred by the students and staff for Field Work / Educational Tours / Industrial Visits)
  • Extension Activities (Social Outreach Programs for the disadvantaged class in Slums and Rural Areas.)
2. Under the Merge Schemes, the UGC sanctioned Rs 73.15 lakhs, of which College received Rs 31.73 lakhs. The grants under the Merge Schemes were utilized for a variety of expense heads, which include:-

  • Colleges with relatively higher SC / ST / OBC / Minority students. (A Financial Assistance of Rs 5,000/- per student was provided to support their financial needs for higher education.)
  • Establishment of UGC ? NRC Library Network (24 computers with broadband internet connection, installed in the library and in each of the departments including computerisation of library operations.)
  • Equal Opportunity Centre ( A lecture series by eminent experts on gender- based issues with emphasis on equality of genders)
  • Remedial Coaching for SC / ST / OBC / Minority students. ( A Series of Sessions in Remedial Coaching for such students to improve their Written and Oral Communication Skills in English with the help of LCDs , Laptops , study materials and reference books)
  • Coaching for NET examination for SC / ST / OBC / Minority students. (A series of Training Sessions by experts for NET / SET aspirants with the help of LCDs, Laptops, reference books and study material).
  • Coaching for Entry into services for SC / ST /OBC / Minority students. (A series of guidance lectures by the distinguished guest faculties from Services for the benefit of students, supported by reference books).
  • ?Career and Counselling Cell ( A series of lectures by renowned visiting faculty for Career Counselling and Vocational guidance? augmented by? relevant Reference / Study Materials)
  • Higher Education for Persons with Special Needs (HEPSN) (Special computers, voice ? over gadgets and books for visually challenged students and construction of user friendly premises for differently - abled persons).
3. Under Additional Financial Assistance for 12 B Colleges, the UGC sanctioned Rs 25 Lakhs, of which the College received Rs 22.50 lakhs. Our College was eligible to receive this Additional Grant because it caters to 20% of Minority students, at least 20% of SC / ST / DT / NT / OBC students and at least 50% of Girl students. This grant was utilized for: -

  • Improving the infrastructure
  • Enhancement of facilities in the College
4. Under Lab Upgradation Scheme to promote Basic Scientific Research, the College received Rs 10.0 lakhs from UGC. This amount was utilized for:-

  • Strengthening of infrastructure in terms of power supply, water supply, safety equipment, fume hoods (for Chemistry Department)
  • Providing work-tables and furniture and fixtures in Science Laboratories.
  • Upgrading of Laboratories for Post Graduate Science Departments.
5. Our College completed 50 years of its existence in 2010. Hence, we were eligible to receive the Golden Jubilee Grant (GJG) of Rs 25 lakhs from UGC under the XIth Plan. We have already received the first installment of Rs 12.5 lakhs (GJG) and the second installment of the same amount is due in March 2012. The GJG will be utilized for:-

  • Water- proofing of the terrace of the College building on priority basis.
  • The painting of the exterior and interior walls of the College building.
6. The UGC grant has made a tremendous impact on :-
?
  • Improving the infrastructure in the College to create a conducive ambience for students for higher learning.
  • Motivating and inspiring the teaching staff to scale higher academic standards including committments towards research activities through Major / Minor Research Projects totalling approx Rs 10.0 lakhs.
