Workshop on ?Effective Study Habits?
The committee had organized a workshop on ?Effective Study Habits? on 21st of September, 2013 in the multimedia room. The resource person was Ms. Suchitra Roy Chowdhury, Head of the Department of Psychology.
A systematic plan was adopted by the committee. To identify the focus group, the mentors were given a questionnaire wherein the students enlisted their strengths and weaknesses. These problem areas were further classified into specific groups like academic, social, personal etc. Students who expressed the guidance for their academic problems were then called for the workshop. The number of participants was 120 students from first year and second year degree college.
The issues dealt with in the workshop were:
  • Common mistakes that students make while writing examinations
  • Steps involved in learning
  • Mnemonics used for retrieval / Memory enhancement techniques
  • Good habits of learning etc?
The workshop was perceived as very informative, insightful and enriching. It had a cathartic effect on the group. It boosted their confidence and left them with the message
?To every problem there is a solution and that channelizing one?s effort definitely leads to success?.
Free Medical check up
The committee had arranged a free health check up for girl students and a free eye check up for all the students of the college in collaboration with Vasan Eye Centre and Young Concepts India Incorporated on 24th September, 2013 in the college gymkhana. 220 students in each camp availed the facility. It was gratifying to see that the committee could reach out to socio-economically underprivileged students who otherwise have less awareness and resources available for their health.
SHIRKE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP to the needy students
The committee provided financial aid to two of our Junior College students who belonged to lower socioeconomic strata. These students are from bifocal combinations who want to pursue further studies in the field of Electronics. Since the foundation extends the help only to students who completed their SSC and are enrolled in 11th or 12th standard, the two students identified by the committee belonged to Junior College.
