BIOTECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

A 2-day field trip was arranged by the Biotechnology department to Laboratory Nuclear Medicine department of the BARC at Tata Memorial Hospital, Parel? on the 18th and 19th of November 2008. The T.Y.B.Sc students participated and they got hands-on experience on modern technology instruments?ELISA Radio immuno assay.
BMM DEPARTMENT
  • FYBMM : The first year students went to Delhi - Agra to visit the historical monuments that enrich the city and also visit the media organizations like Aajtak and NSD (National School of Drama) which would benefit them in the future. It was a nice experience for the students to visit the monuments and the media industries. The tour was conducted during the period 5-2-2009 to 10-2-2009.
  • SYBMM : The second year BMM students went to Jaipur for their industrial visit. The 4 days and 5 night tour was a visit to historical places like the Amber Fort, City Palace and Ranthambore wild safari. The visit to myFM, a famour radio station of Jaipur was a great experience and exposure to the students about the radio industry. The tour was conducted during the period 29-1-2009 to 03-2-2009.
BOTANY DEPARTMENT
  • EDUCATIONAL VISITS : This year, students of botany visited several places of botanical interest such as Lonavala, Khandala, Malshej ghats, National Park, Jijamata Udhyan, etc. Also department has organized industrial visit to Kelkar Perfumeries (Mulund), Garden and exhibitional visits to - Go Green Nursery (Panvel), V.J.T.I. college, Satheye College, etc.

The field visits and excursions were conducted to inculcate interest in students for the subject and also to show them plants in their natural habitats.

Following were the places of visits :

CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT
A trip to BARC, Trombay was organized for T.Y.B.Sc students. A team of 34 students were accompanied by 4 teachers from the department. Dhruva reactor, Food and Technology Division, Computer Division and different facilities of the Chemistry group were visited and studied. The visit to the reactor was a fascinating and a learning experience for the students. The visit to the Computer Division showed how the super computers function and how the technology can be a source of information. Irradiation facilities for increasing self life were also shown to the students.

The Chemistry Division showed the creation of vacuum at both high and low pressures, thermodynamic applications and the LASER.
The department under the banner ?Self Employment Course? arranged an industrial visit to T.D.M Laboratory for Drug analysis where the participants got hands-on experience to use modern instruments in monitoring the drugs.

HISTORY DEPARTMENT

Under the study of T.Y.BA paper VI Elements of Archacology, Museology and Library Science and to enhance the interest of the students in the subject of History, the department organised the visits to the following Museums.

  1. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (Formerly,The Prince Of Wales Museum Of Western India.).
  2. Bhau Daji Lad Museam at Byculla.

Students also visited the ?Discovery of India? a permanent exhibition on Jawaharlal Nehru's life and contribution and Indian History covering ancient, Medieval and modern period of? Indian History at Nehru Science Centre, Worli.

MICROBIOLOGY DEPARTMENT
  • Students of SYBSc were taken to visit the state of the art Navi Mumbai Sewage treatment plant at Seawoods, Belapur.
  • Students of TYBSc visited Actrec at Kharghar and United Breweries at Taloja.
  • Students of MSc (Part One) went to Pune for a three day field visit where they visited several institutes like Sula Wines, Nashik, K F Bioplants, Pune? Agriculture College, University of Pune, Serum Institute of India, Pune, National Centre for Cell Sciences, Pune and Armed Forces Medical College, Pune .
  • Students of MSc also attended a three day workshop organized by The SIES Institute of Environmental Studies, Nerul,? on techniques in Molecular Biology.

PHILOSOPHY DEPARTMENT

Field Trip to Kaivalyadham, Lonavala was organized for the degree college students.

PHYSICS DEPARTMENT

The department organized one day visit to Nehru Science Centre and Nehru Planetarium at Worli. The SYBSc and TYBSc students participated. The students got an insight into various experiments based on different principles in Physics, such as reflection (light and sound), refraction, interference, phosphorescence, imaging, shadows etc. They were very fascinated to see night sky during the day and also the planetarium show.

ZOOLOGY DEPARTMENT

The department of Zoology organized a long excursion for the students of TY BSc & MSc class. As per the University guidelines, it was a 7 days excursion. This year, it was held from 13th of January 2008 to 20th of January 2008. The number of students enrolled for the excursion was 25. Booking was done in advance and the tour was planned with all minute details. The students were accompanied by 3 teaching staff members. As per the itineray the visit was to Bharatpur district in Rajasthan. A field visit was also arranged to Bharatpur National Park. The staff members along with the students studied the flora & fauna of the park in detail with the help of a local guide. It as a memorable tour.
