The activities of NCC unit for the year 2010-11 began with the oath taking ceremony on 15th August 2010. Honourable Principal Dr. Harsha Mehta addressed 53 newly enrolled cadets by administering the oath. |
Exhibition

The NCC Boys and NCC Girls Unit both celebrated NCC week on 24th July 2010 for motivating the college students to join NCC. A grand display of weapons like SLR(Self Loading Rifle), LMG(Light Machine Gun), INSAS, Hand Grenade, Smoke bombs etc. with a camp representation and a photographic exhibition was done. |
Camps, Hiking, Workshops
|
- The Boys Unit of 53 cadets had gone for a two day hiking to BHIMASHANKAR in KHANDASGAON hill ranges (KARJAT) under the leadership of CSUO Sandip Hanchate and CJUO Abhishek Chavan.
|
- In the year 2010, four ?ATCs (Annual Training Camps) were held. ( 20th Sept. ?10 to 29th ?Sept.?10 ,?? 4th Oct.?10 to 13th ?Oct.?10, 19th Oct. ?10 to 28th Oct.?10 , 29th ?Oct.?10 to 7th ?Nov. ?10) Associate NCC Officer Maj. S. H. Bohra was appointed as the ?Deputy Camp Commandant? for the 3rd ?ATC. In the 3rd ATC camp the cadets also won the first prize for the overall cultural competition in the camp and CPL Krishnan Thayil had won third prize in solo singing competition.

- Seven of our cadets were also selected for Army Attachment (Brigades of the Guards) Camp held in Nagpur, Kamptee from 6th Dec. to 19 Dec. 2010. The Army Attachment Camp provides an opportunity for all the cadets for firing INSAS rifle which is one of the most sophisticated weapon of the Indian Army. The Army Attachment Camp is one of the toughest camps of the NCC Unit.

- Four of our cadets were also selected for All India Kerala and Lakshadweep Trekking Camp from 15th Dec. to 29th ?Dec. 2010 where all the cadets were given an opportunity for sightseeing and visiting historic places.

- Our five cadets also attended the NIC (National Integration Camp) held in Mumbai from 2nd ?Nov. to 13th ?Nov. 2010 where they? were guided and trained to enhance their cultural skills such as singing, stage plays etc.

- On 25th Oct. 2010 during the third ATC, seven cadets of our College were selected for attending the felicitation ceremony of the Common Wealth Games Medal winners.

Social Activities

NCC Cadets have also participated in several social activities like Blood Donation Drives one of which was held at 1NHS ASHWINI (Colaba, Navy Nagar).? They attended the Pulse Polio drive and also several rallies like Stop Drug Abuse, Ban on Female Foeticide and HIV-AIDS Awareness. The Cadets also helped the Mumbai Police during festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi and Durgashtami for controlling and managing the crowd during the peak hours. Their efforts were appreciated by the authorities. |
Career Guidance

The NCC Unit has also started conducting CDS and SSB mock test every Sunday under the guidance of ex NCC senior Shailesh Jaiswar. This helps to guide and encourage NCC cadets to seek admission in defence and other related government jobs. Many of our ex NCC seniors who are now Officers in Indian Defence give lectures on Sundays and also guide the cadets in joining defence and other related fields. NCC Unit of our college also has a group in facebook where online support and guidance is given to cadets for careers in defence along with the display of the several achievements of our cadets. |

In 1 MAH BN, SIES College is the only institution to produce officers in the Indian Defence and Paramilitary Forces for five consecutive years. Some of our ex NCC Cadets adding to the pride of our college are SGT Vishwajeet Ghanekar selected for IMA, CSUO Niraj Mishra in Naval Aviation, CJUO Vikas Tripathi in Indian Coast Guard, CSM Rai Praveen for NDA (Air Force) and CJUO Atmajkumar Bhat who stood 4th in All India Merit list for admission to the 123rd course of the NDA. |

National Cadet Corps Unit in our college started the year?s activity in the month of July 2010. |
The enrolled strength of Girl Cadets from our College this year is 15. Every? cadet is actively participating in all the activities conducted by the NCC Unit? apart from being good at academics. |
Some of the activities conducted by the Girl Cadets are as follows: |

Orientation Programme : The Class to Class campaign ?introduces the College?s NCC Unit to the new entrants to the College and motivates them to join our Unit and contribute something to the Society as well as to the Nation.

Tree Plantation Drive: About 12 Girl Cadets participated in the Tree Plantation Drive that was conducted in SIES College of Commerce and Economics on 18th Aug, 2010 indicating the consciousness of the Cadets towards the nature.

Clean Up Drive: Girl Cadets participated in the Clean Up Drive that was conducted by 1 MAH BN NCC UNIT of Maharashtra Directorate at Girgaon Chowpatty after the oil spills of the Chitra Ship.

Bandobast duty: The Cadets assisted the Mumbai Police during the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi to control the traffic and public.

PARTICIPATION AND ACHIEVEMENTS |
- JUO Subha Yadava was selected from the Mumbai Division to attend the Army Attachment Camp held at Officers Training Academy, Chennai from 21st Sep.2010 to 3rd Oct.2010.
- Cdt. Subbalaxmi Madaswamy and Cdt. Manisha Udaykumar won 3rd place in Relay at the Annual Sports Meet(31st Jan 2011) at Parel.
- Sgt. Sunita Singh attended the National Integration Camp held at Chembur , Mumbai from 2nd Nov 2010 to 13th Nov 2010.
- 11 Girl Cadets from our College attended the Annual Training Camp (ATC) held at Birla College, Kalyan from 9th to 19th Nov 2010.
- Cdt. Manisha Udaykumar won 1st prize in Elocution at the ATC.
- CSM Bina Dehari and Cdt. Amutha Paul won 2nd prize in Games at the ATC.
- From the 14 Colleges that attended the Camp at the ATC, our College ranked 2nd place in Group Dance and Song and 7th Place in Drill Competition.
- Our Girls attended the rally conducted by nearby areas of the Camp site.

ACHIEVEMENTS OF CDT. MONISHA NAIR IN REPUBLIC DAY CAMP |
- Cdt. Monisha Nair of FYJC Science apart from being a First Class holder in S.S.C. is also an excellent Classical Dancer and Singer.
- She is the 2nd Best Cadet of Maharashtra State.
- She was the Parade Commander of her Company and Mike co-ordinator of National Integration Awareness Presentation.
- Also participated in Cultural competitions at Delhi.
- She performed very well in her Camp and attended Republic Day Parade in Delhi.
- She participated in Prime Minister?s rally, Motivation Hall Briefing etc.

43rd Youth Festival 2010-2011 |
On 15th July 2010, a meeting was conducted by Shri. Mrudal Nile, Director of Student Welfare.. ?about the events to be held as part of the Youth festival. Auditions were conducted in the college premises for various events. Entry forms for 18 events in the category of performing arts, literary arts, fine arts and theater were sent. More than 30 students participated this year. |
The Contingent leaders (Jennifer Nisha Jalaludeen and Sajan Gupta) were present for all the meetings and all the different rounds for registration. They were also present during the various events to cheer up the participants as well during declaration of prize winners. The CL?s also managed and coordinated rehearsals for the participants and looked after all administrative details. |
Teachers from the college, especially Ms. Kamala Srinivas, Ms. Joan Benita Fernando and Ms. Surekha Joshi helped in training the students for Debate, Elocution and Music respectively. We are grateful to them for having spent their valuable time for the same.
At the finals, Ms.Vidya Nair from SYBA secured the first prize in Indian Classical Dance (Mohiniattam) and brought glory to the college. ? |

National Service Scheme |

The orientation programme for NSS volunteers was organized on 9th Aug 2010.
Principal Dr. Harsha Mehta , NSS programme officer Mr. Dinesh Pathak addressed the NSS volunteers. They explained the role of a volunteer & also the working system of the team to the newly enrolled volunteers. On this occasion, several senior NSS volunteers also shared their experiences. |

Blood Donation & Thalesemia checking drive : On 10th August 2010? NSS unit organized a blood donation & thalesemia checking drive with the help of LTMG blood bank, Sion. A total of 93 units of blood was collected. The students and staff members both teaching and ?non teaching actively participated in the drive.

Pulse Polio Drive : About 32 volunteers participated in the?? Pulse Polio drive. Some volunteers extended their services by conducting PPD at booths allocated to them while some did it through door to door campaigning in the pulse polio week.

Tree plantation & conservation drive : 105 volunteers participated in tree plantation drive on 29th and 30th of Sept. 2010. 35 students participated in tree conservation drive at Gagangiri Maharaj Ashram on 16th Jan 2011.

Awareness on? Alzheimer?s Disease : The NSS unit organized a workshop on Alzheimer?s disease in collaboration with Alzheimer?s and Related Disorders Society of India. A team of experienced doctors gave their expert advice to several senior citizens. They also guided the volunteers about different social and emotional problems related with Alzheimer?s disease.

Project Aagaz : Under the project Aagaz the NSS unit organized visit to Adivasi village Lavali, Savali an orphanage, Aadhar and Berumati Matimand Ashrams in Badlapur. On 5th Sept 2010 the NSS unit organized a visit to Lavali an Adivasi village. The NSS volunteers distributed old clothes to the needy people of the village. They visited Savali Kendra, an orphanage .There they presented several gifts and? articles of daily use to the children of the orphanage. The volunteers also visited Aadhar and Berumati Matimand Ashram. There they staged a socio cultural programme for the mentally challenged inmates of the Ashram. The programme was well appreciated by Doctors and other staff members of the ashram.

Socio cultural program Training by Yuvak Biradari : The NSS unit organized a socio cultural training programme for the volunteers with the help of ?Yuvak Biradari activists. The activists from Yuvak Biradari demonstrated their skills in singing, dance, drama and public relation. The session of socio cultural training was appreciated by the NSS volunteers.

Guru Poornima & Teachers? day : NSS unit celebrated Guru Poornima and Teachers? day by greeting teachers with ?cards made by volunteers and? roses? as a symbol of respect to the? teachers.

Independence Day : NSS unit along with NCC unit celebrated Independence Day. After flag hoisting NSS unit organized a cultural programme based on the theme of National integration. The programme was well appreciated by the teaching and non teaching staff of the college.

Republic Day : NSS unit along with NCC unit celebrated Republic Day in the college campus? after the flag hoisting and traditional celebration. Volunteers also took part in the Best college award function which was held in University Campus at Kalina.

Lecture on skin donation : A lecture on skin donation and its social importance was organized by NSS unit . Dr. Madhuri Gore explained various dimensions of skin donation .

Self employment workshop : The NSS unit organized the self employment workshop Udaan in? collaboration with Yuvak Biradari. Prof. Swar Kranti and his team of experts from Welingkar Institute of Management gave expert advice about the different areas like finance infrastructure and documentation.NSS volunteers and other students of the college were the beneficiaries of the workshop.

Red Ribbon Club(RRC) activities : Under the RRC different programmes were undertaken. Volunteers participated in MDACS peer educator workshop. Red ribbon day was celebrated by distributing red ribbons to college students. A lecture on HIV - AIDS was organized. DR. Shanbhag delivered an excellent informative lecture on HIV- AIDS. It was followed by an interactive session.
NSS volunteers performed street plays in the slum pockets of Dharavi at different places. They also disseminated AIDS awareness message through posters, banners leaflets & handbills. They also distributed condoms to slum dwellers at several occasions.

Active participations in the Eminence award function : ?NSS unit actively participated in the smooth conduct of Eminence awards at Shanmukhanand auditorium. NSS volunteers extended their services actively from ground to dais activities and they demonstrated an example of team work and discipline.

Participation at state level camp : NSS volunteer Shah Mohd Haroon (SYBA) was selected for state level cultural camp at Solapur. He won a silver & two bronze medals for his extra ordinary performances in the field of culture & music.

Seven Day Special Residential Camp : The special residential camp was organized at Karav village, Badlapur from 26th Dec 2010 to 1st Jan 2011. An enthusiastic group of 47 volunteers participated in the camp.

Activities in the Camp : Volunteers carried out cleanliness drive in the village and the surroundings. They constructed a Dam in order to conserve river water for the daily use of villagers. Different socio cultural activities were organized which included lecture sessions on various subjects. Yoga Sessions and Art of Living Sessions were also conducted. Eminent speakers were invited to impart values.
