|
CENTRE FOR STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS |
The rationale for the center is that students who are variously challenged require special care, guidance and counselling. Efforts are made to bring them to the mainstream and enable them to be self-reliant individuals.
The center has three sub-centers as:
a) |
To cater to students who are visually challenged |
b) |
To students with learning disabilities |
c) |
Students from vernacular medium of instruction |
Apart from the above, the Center provides the much needed professional counseling for all students. With increasing competition and expectations the present generation of young persons go through tremendous stress resulting in examination phobia, a sense of inferiority complex etc. They need professional guidance to meet the same.
In its commitment to the cause of education, the college goes beyond the formal and the conventional. One of the unique facilities available in the college is the educational library for the visually handicapped students, whom the college has been enrolling from 1979 in the Faculty of Arts.
The Samjuben Girdharlal Vora Educational Library has text books in Braille and audio
cassettes of pre-recorded lectures in various subjects, recorders and earphones. The library has further updated its facilities by installing Perkin.s Braille which is of immense use to the students. Besides catering to the visually handicapped students enrolled in the college, the above facilities are made available to similar students from other colleges on request.
|
CENTRE FOR VISUALLY CHALLENGED STUDENTS |
We intend to develop computer facilities for these visually challenged students. Three computers with the latest configurations with the hardware, software ? Indian Language Braille Translation Software requirements, as well as other recurring cost including operational / maintenance cost etc would incur a cost of approx Rs. 8 Lakhs. The above project would go a long way in equipping the visually challenged students so that they become technically qualified in an ever competitive employment market.
|
STUDENTS FROM VERNACULAR MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION |
Every year a large number of such students are enrolled. They need guidance and counselling to cope up with the needs of instruction English. The counsellor would build upon their morale and self esteem and ensure that they do not drop out of studies.
|
COUNSELLING FOR ALL STUDENTS |
Apart from the above, the Centre provides the much needed professional counselling for all students .The Centre provides regular career guidance to the students and conducts aptitude tests, as per needs. Regular lectures and presentations are given on various skill enhancement programmes via preparation for interviews, group Discussions etc. The centre also meets emotional/psychological problems of maladjustments.
The growth of any worthwhile endeavour especially in the field of education, depends to a considerable extent on the selfless service and dedication of the sponsors .One of the distinguishing features of the society is that it is essentially a ?Common man?s effort?. Not endowed with any substantial donation, the Society has grown purely on the meagre contribution of the students and well wishers. It is only the sustained interest and generous donation and contribution from the large hearted public that has enabled us to implement various schemes to cater to the educational needs without compromising its high standards of disciple and value based quality education.
The Society proposes to bring out a Souvenir on the occasion of its Platinum Jubilee, which would contain all relevant information on higher education and multi ? faceted approach to the challenges of change in the 21st Century. The Souvenir would have a vast readership amongst academicians, alumni and philanthropists. The advertisement support in the Souvenir would certainly sub serve the cause of higher education in this metropolis. We solicit your large hearted and generous support to the appeal.
The contribution may kindly be sent by cheque in favour of ?The South Indian Education society ?and are eligible for tax ? exemption under Sec. 80G No. DIT (E) /MC/80-G/1930/2006/2006-07 dated 22.5.2006 valid up to 31st March, 2009.
