Two day Hindi National Seminar on Hindi Media - Its strengths and limitations

In association with the Maharashtra Rajya Hindi Sahitya Akademi, the Hindi department organised a 2-day national seminar. It was held on 14th and 15th of March 2008 in our college Conference Hall.

The Chief Guest during the inauguration was the ex-editor of Madhuri Mr. Vinod Tiwari. Inauguration was on the hands of the famous writer and editor of Samyaantar, Mr. Pankaj Bhisht. Speakers from all over the country presented various papers. The topics were very interesting. Television and Film media, TV news, Radio and internet, the print media were all dealt with.

Some of the eminent speakers were :

  2. Ms. Rekha Nigam (Script writer for Hindi films)
  3. Dr. Asha Naithani (Head dept. of Hindi, St. Xaviers College)

  5. Dr. Madhav Pandit (Reader dept. of Hindi, Mumbai University)
  6. Dr. Nirmala Tripathi (Head dept. of Hindi, Sophia College)
  7. Anoop Sethi (Noted poet and writer)
  8. Abhishek Sharma (News editor, NDTV India, Mumbai)

The seminar had a very good response and appreciated by our Principal.

Unique Achievement of the Insitution

Our College magazine Dakshinayanam for the year 2006-2007 has been awarded a certificate of appreciation for excellence. 23 magazines were received from various colleges for the award of Prof. M. V. Chandgadkar Trophy. Our magazine is one of the outstanding FIVE which the committee short listed. Other 4 colleges are Gogate College Ratnagiri, Kirti College, St Xavier?s College and Pillai?s College of Arts, Science and Commerce, New Panvel.

PRAYOG - An Educational Fair

An exhibition on Science, Technology & Society named PRAYOG was organized on 15th, 16th and 17th of Dec. 2007. It was an Educational Fair enjoyed by one and all ? children, parents and the public.

All the Science as well as Arts & Commerce departments arranged the exhibits ? some working models, some theoretical models, some charts, some computer aided and IT related projects etc. The students displayed their talent, knowledge and skills in a very? good manner.

Private Sector and Public Sector Organizations were invited to showcase their products. To name a few, Central Railways, CLI, RBI, TERI, MTNL, ACTREC, BARC, NPC, TIFR, HBCSE, Institute of Science & Religion ,MPCB, SOP, Forensic lab etc.were with us for all 3 days.

A live snake show by Mr. Bharat Joshi attracted the crowd.

Vedic Mathematics class by Mr Deep Kapadia enriched everyone attended.

Mr. Roy Mathew showed his skills in magic.

Institute of Comprehensive Education of our college put up a puppet show with current themes such as Global Warming and Waste Management. The students got a very good hands-on experience to do good projects.

Yes, The Chemical Company BASF put up its Kid?s Lab where children from various schools grabbed the opportunity to conduct expts. They were made to wear gloves, apron and goggles while performing the expts.and were given? certificates also.

Nearly 15,000 visitors were registered in the Registration Counter managed by IT students.

Prayog received a vast media coverage and needless to say that it was an highly successful and memorable event.

International Conference on the importance of Medical History on 15, 16 and 17 November 2007
The Department of History, SIES College of Arts, Science and Commerce and The Wellcome Trust Centre for the History of Medicine at the University College London, UK. Jointly organized a three day International Conference on the importance of Medical History on 15, 16 and 17 November 2007 at the Indian Merchants Chamber Auditorium at Churchgate, Mumbai.

The Conference addressed the important topics of historical methods and historiography from a trans-national and cross-disciplinary perspective. The session attracted participants from a variety of fields and brought together a strong contingent of speakers. Papers were presented by Andrew Wear, Karen Buckle, Lauren Kassell, Hal Cook, Guy Attewell, Sonu Shamdasani, Dr. Sanjoy Bhattacharya, all from University College London, UK, Sebastian Pranghofer, Durham University, UK, Rod Edmond, University of Kent, UK

The Conference was the first of its kind organized in Mumbai and dealt with the important area of Medical Humanities which is important for academic and social inquiry.

The Wellcome Trust Centre for the History of Medicine at UCL is the world?’s premier research institute for the history of medicine. It conducts research on and disseminates the history of medicine, both as an academic discipline and as a subject of broader public interest. It aims to promote a vision of medical history which is comprehensive in chronological;, geographic and thematic range, and which draws upon a wide field of scholarly expertise.

Workshop on effective communication and building of language skills from 14th to 17th Nov?’ 2007
Workshop on effective communication and building of language skills for the administrative staff by Dr. Rajalakshmi Hebsur from 14th to 17th November 2007. The workshop was very useful and was marked by enthusiastic participation by the staff.
