FREE MEDICAL CAMP
Golden Jubilee Year
|
Golden Jubilee Year started with the Inaugural Function on Saturday, 20th June, 2009.
Without wasting even a day, on Sunday, 21st June, 2009 we embarked upon the project. ?Free Medical Camp.?
This camp was arranged for the needy and poor patients in collaboration with Rotary Club of? Sion and Past Students? Association with the help of present staff and students of the college.
The camp turned out to be a grand success with 205 people taking the advantage of it in the short span of 6 hrs.
The camp provided free checkups and consultancy in various disciplines like????
- Blood pressure.
- Random Blood Sugar Test.
- Eye check up.
- Dental checkup??
- Lung Function Test.
- Height/Weight/BMI.
- Consultation in Food and Nutrition.
Reputed and expert doctors in their respective fields were arranged by Rotary Club. This team of expert doctors was led by Dr. Rohan Bartake.
Doctors worked very hard through out the camp. The general physician was Dr. Bijal Mehta while ophthalmic checkup was done by Doctors of Aditya Jyoti Eye Hospital. The team of doctors included - Dr. Debopriya Chatterjee, Dr. Margaret Hamaraj, Dr. Shrikant Badiger, Dr. Prachi Chimantkar and Dr. Vitan Joshi.
The response of the public in the ophthalmic department was immense and 7 people were provided with free spectacles.
Dr. Anup Laksande(cardiologist) and Dr. Suhas Adavade from Sun Pharma were conducting Blood Sugar Test and Lung function test was handled by Ms. Bharthi Shenvi, Ms. Sneha and Mr. Sujit.
This team was assisted by enthusiastic SIES Gymkhana members, who were carrying out BMI Test efficiently. Nutrition related problems and associated ailments were effectively handled by dietician Ms. Bhakti.
The camp would not have been successful without the help of all student volunteers and a team of teachers headed by our dynamic Principal Dr. Harsha Mehta.???? Mr. Santosh Katariya with his team of NSS. volunteers was of great help to the camp. Ms. Rajalakshmi Amudam and Ms. Kavita Bhopatkar deserve a special mention for their untiring efforts.
Rotary Club was kind enough not only in supporting the camp by providing us doctors, but the President of Rotary Club handed over the cheque of Rs. 5,000/- to our College. They will also recognize the service provided by each individual by giving a certificate.
The immense success of this camp made us confident to organize more such camps for the community.

Rama making Lord Ganesha Idols
|
The PSA geared up to organize one of the great, unusual and rare events in the history of SIES?inviting Ms. Rama Shah to make idols of Lord Ganesha in its premises.
|
Two auspicious days 8th and 9th of September 2009, were chosen. Believing in the power of the highest single digit 9, a humble well known artist who makes beautiful, washable and unbreakable Ganesha Idols, Ms Rama Satish Shah planned to begin the work on Monday 8th September at 09:09:09am and finish on Tuesday 9th September (Angaraki Chaturthi) at 09:09:09am .
|
The formal inauguration of lighting the traditional lamp was done at the hands of Shri Jayaram Mani, Vice President, South Indian Education Society at 8.45am. Shri Shashikant G. Vora, President of PSA and Shri M.R. Bhatia, Vice Principal were also present. Ms. Shah was blind folded and she made the first idol? of Lord Ganesha to the utter surprise of students, staff and the public and everyone gathered clapped their hands in delight.
|
Shah continued doing the idols nonstop in different shapes and sizes without using any mould, through the day and the night. She did not lose her moods or her patience when at night the power went off. Rama continued her work with full dedication and determination in candle light. In all she made 999 idols of the Lord in 24 hours, out of which 9 idols were made blind folded. It is a great achievement and a wonderful record.?
|
There was the display gallery also where 99,999 idols previously made, were displayed and the display was extended by a day on public demand. The display included Ganesha in different poses..standing, sitting, sleeping.
|
We in SIES are blessed to have so many replicas of Lord Ganesha in our campus in front of us at the same time. It is also very surprising to mention here that Rama has full support from her family and that she does not make any money out of this.
